Vocational Education & Training
Vocational Education incorporates Vocational Education and Training (VET) and Vocational Learning. VET refers to industry accredited entry level training that leads to certification within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Vocational Learning includes Employability Skills, Enterprise Education, Career Education in Schools, work and community based learning.
The Vocational Education Team represents and advocates the interests of Catholic schools while facilitating information networks between key representatives in school, other school sectors, business, industry, community, government and their agencies.
The work of the Vocational Education team aims to support and build the capacity of individuals and school communities to support their students in their senior years of schooling and beyond. This support is provided across the metropolitan and country areas through:
• consultation and advice for Principals, school leaders and Vocational Education Coordinators
• resourcing for specific projects and information sharing regarding national and state initiatives
• individual support for Vocational Education Coordinators and schools
• coordination of professional learning programs and network meetings for Vocational Education Coordinators and school leaders
• the identification of school and sector needs and priorities
• collaboration on cross-curricula approaches to professional development delivery with
identified teams in CESA and other stakeholders
• communication of training and employment opportunities for students
• liaising with tertiary educational institutions, training and employment providers
All Catholic secondary schools offer a range of VET in Schools (VETiS) programs. The two Catholic technical colleges, Marcellin Technical College and St Patrick’s Technical College, focus on supporting students in their Australian School-based Apprenticeship (ASbA) and thus on a clear pathway toward a trade qualification.
VETiS has become an integral part of school programs and learning options for students. VET programs play an essential role in making the curriculum inclusive of a broader range of needs. Catholic Education supports the attainment of the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) as a primary objective of senior school education. The flexibilities of the SACE and in particular the Policy: Recognition Arrangements for Vocational Education and Training (VET), will strengthen the role of VETiS.
The work of the Vocational Education team is supported by an Advisory committee, and partnerships with education sectors, government and business.
